Meeting Cristiano in Madrid with American Tourister

How crazy the year 2018 has been for me. I was invited by American Tourister Australia to meet Cristiano Ronaldo in Madrid, Spain, along with 18 other bloggers and Youtubers from around the world.

This year, I was given a wonderful opportunity to meet Cristiano and to gift him something quintessentially Australian. As part of the #bringbackmore campaign by American Toursiter...

It was a challenge to choose something that is uniquely Aussie. I had an American Tourister competition on Instagram to ask my followers what they think is Aussie. I had hundreds of comments, from Tim Tams to Golden Gay Time. The standard boomerang, koala bear and kangaroo souvenir. And even something a little bit crazy, a koala onesie. However, the verdict is hands down Vegemite!

I grew up watching football (or how Aussies would say it, "soccer") with my dad, and we used to stay up late just to catch the live matches on FIFA. I guess that would be our father and daughter bonding time.

To be able to walk and explore Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, where Cristiano's team, Real Madrid played and won many championships is an amazing experience. The stadium itself is massive, seats 81K people! There is a line of hardcore fans, queuing up to get into Santiago Bernabéu Museum.

We were  all caught by surprise when we were taken to the locker room and given customised Real Madrid jerserys. We were all given this once in a lifetime chance to play on the football field! UNREAL!

Our group was given one chance to score a goal and the best price was a Real Madrid football. Well, my ball didn't make it to the goal post (about 1 meter away). At least, I gave my very best!

We stayed in this beautiful hotel in the city of Madrid. It was art deco inspired with funky furnishings. It was a perfect setup for American Tourister's colourful suitcases!

I had an amazing time connecting with like-minded people. So, thank you once again, American Tourister for bringing us together!

Miss May's Etsy Mother's Day Gift Guide

Welcome to Miss May's Mother's Day edition. I have selected all my favourite things from Etsy makers.

I'm currently head over heels in love with the embroidery wall hoop from Thimble & Bobbin. Lauren, the maker, stitches really fun (and inspiring) quotes of her hoops on Etsy. "You got this mama" is too cute to resist!

Now, I've been obsessing with handmade looms on Etsy. These modern woven wall hangings are made of various fibre of different colours and textures. When I saw Clare of Jade and Frankie's beautiful handmade tapestry, I had to get one for my mother.

My Packing Tips With American Tourister

My favourite travel luggages, American Tourister

My favourite travel luggages, American Tourister

I travel quite a bit, at least a 10 times a year. Whether it's interstate, between cities in Australia for meetings, shoots and design markets or flying into a new country.

Here's a couple of tips for packing:

1. Travel light

2. Be organised (e.g. packing pouches)

3. Place larger clothing at the bottom of suitcase (e.g. jacket and throw)

Travel light

I generally pack a number of outfits based on per week not on a number of days you're away (I usually do my laundry every week)

Be organised

I used to have random tote bags and plastic bags to separate smaller clothing items from cables and toiletries.

I used to roll my clothes up and pack them into the suitcase. Until one of my photographer friends introduced me to packing pouches. That's when I discovered this 5-in-1 Travel Pouch by American Tourister.

These travel pouches are the best things I ever had! Life saver in every way.

It comes in a set of 5 travel pouches to organised all your essentials. My favourite has got to be the Garment and Undergarment Bag and Shoe Bag where I can separate my clothings and footwear. My husband, Leon, loves the Cable Pouch as we could get all our tech gadget's chargers and cables all into one bag.

How to pack

In this flatlay, I'm using the new Curio collection by American Tourister. Yellow and bright. I love this colour as it is almost impossible for me not to miss my suitcase at the luggage pickup area.

Hope that helps :)

Have a fab week all.

Foodie's Delight

This is our third food journal in Amsterdam, a collaboration with Hotel The Exhange. In the previous blogs, we've talked about the yummiest quick and easy meals to get in Amsterdam, and don't forget the Dutch local food.

This time around, my #instagramhusband Leon (of @leonventures) will be taking you to restaurant and cafes we love.

BREAKFAST

It’s a great idea to start off the day at Hotel The Exchange’s Café STOCK. Grab a nice cup of tea or coffee and enjoy some sun in the outdoor seating area.

I love Café STOCK, as it’s located on the world renown street in Amsterdam - Damrak street, which is bustling all day long.

This time around, we would recommend the Café STOCK pancakes. The pancakes come in ham and cheese. For the sweettooth,  there's the maple syrup one. We love the yoghurt with extra toppings you can get - berries, banana and honey.

DESSERT

Bakkerij van der Linde is well known in Amsterdam for their delicious, creamy Slagroomijs (ice cream in Dutch). The creamiest ice cream I've ever had in my life. There's always a long queue at Bakkerij van der Linde, snaking past the next store.

It is worth the wait. You will see some locals getting two ice cream cones for themselves. It is very rich in flavour. Milky and not too sweet.

LUNCH

De Bakkerswinkel is only 5 minutes walk from Hotel The Exchange. We were craving for quiche and salad, and this is the perfect spot. Popular with the locals, with cute canteen style interior with mismatched Persian rugs, De Bakkerswinkel is a quirky cafe with pretty pastel pink walls.

We tried the meatloaf on toast, quiche and salad, which makes a lovely lunch spread.

DINNER

Our third stop was where Amsterdam meets Asia. 8 minutes walk around town from Hotel The Exchange, we found a stylish trendy bar and restaurant called Adam & Siam. There are two entrances into the typical Dutch townhouses and we are loving it!

For mains, we started off with Gieuwhaan Koong Sai Thoua, green curry shrimp with Thai eggplant and coconut milk. Pad Nam Prik Pouw and Stir Fried Chicken and beef with roasted chilli paste and coconut milk were divine. We were caught by surprise, the Adam & Siam dishes were actually spicy and delicious. Rich in aroma and flavours, I have to say it was an amazing dine in experience.

For those who love to try a little bit of everything, I'd recommend the Siam Threesome - Chicken Cake, Chicken Satay and Shrimp Spring Roll. The dipping sauce that came with the dish was sweet and refreshing.

That's all for now. Thank you for popping by. See you all in 2018!
